The Seahawks Post

Ok. So I'm going to weigh in.  Not on facebook, but on my own personal blog.  For a few reasons.  One, I get as long as a post/rant as I want. Two, no one really comments on this page, so I won't have to deal with certain annoying football fanatics having a fit over a GAME.

Let me just start out by saying this: I'm no Sporty Spice.  I'm just a girl who has enjoyed watching the Seattle Seahawks for the last 5+ years with Hottie Hubs. I don't give a flyin penalty flag about the other teams.  Couldn't care less actually.  I've had some great Sundays with close friends watching this ONE team through their ups and their downs.  A few years ago, it was hard to watch them, but we did.  We supported them with their dumb QB and their stupid mistakes.  Then last year, we saw something really awesome.  We saw a team that was starting to get it together and actually win.  A team that was fun to watch again.  A QB that ran the ball (and wasn't too shabby to look at either) and a group of other guys they now call the Legion of Boom.  A great kicker and a not too shabby offensive team.  Plus, a guy named Zach Miller.  Really?  Zach's my brother and Miller is his dog (well technically he's my parents dog now) so obviously I gotta like that guy too.

Do I sound like I know what I'm talking about?  Cause I don't.  Thats how much I don't care about football.  Just because I was a stat girl does not make me an expert ;)

And thats just fine with me.  Because its JUST A GAME.

When we went to Seattle a few years ago during pre-season, we went to a Seahawks-Raiders game.  I admit, I may have had a few too many pre-funk beers, and along the route to the stadium, I was giving out "knuckles" to EVERYONE.  Literally everyone that my knuckle could touch.  I would run up to people, strangers if you will, and with a cute smile yell, "Seahawk Knuckles!!!!"  And everyone would give them back to me.  I even ran up to an obvious Raiders fan and gave them "Raider Knuckles".  Why?  Because its JUST A GAME.  And games are meant to be fun.  No one plays Tic Tac Toe and chooses Os just because they hate Xs.

And as anyone (not living under a rock) on FB could tell, Sunday night extending to the present has been blown up with whiney crybabies that are upset with the Seahawks.  Why?  Because your team didn't make it?  Because a trash talking player was given a chance on the microphone?  Because we've sucked in the past and couldn't possibly have earned this trip to the Super Bowl? Seriously, every single day its another reason to hate on the Seahawks. Today it's the clothesline seen around the world. Tomorrow, it'll be the fake dread extensions that whipped someone in the face "accidentally" (I made that one up but you see where I'm going) The Seahawks consist of some strong personalities.  Those personalities are the ones that make waves.  This is not a new concept.

I honestly don't remember FB blowing up over a game before this, but then again, I couldn't care less about any other NFL (or MLB, NBA, NHL) team.  But for some reason, the Seattle Seahawks success this season has gotten more (negative) coverage than I've ever seen.   And its extremely annoying.  As if your comment is going to change anyone's mind, or the outcome of the game.  All its doing is creating a wedge between you and your "friends" online.  I actually found myself a little mad at a friend because of something they posted about MY team. Duh.  There's a lot more going on in this world that could use some passionate ranting posts.

Another topic: Bandwagoners.  For some reason, it upsets people that others might want to start rooting for the Seahawks now that the've pulled their heads outta their butts.  So what?  What's the bother?  Because the 12th man is getting bigger, stronger, louder?  Is this whole thing about the 12th man?  Why hate on a community of people supporting something positive?  The 12th man WAS HERE when they're weren't doing their best.  But of course, fans get louder the better a team plays, right?  So why is it so surprising that when we're doing awesome, the 12th man is at it loudest?

Its like we can't win. Except we are.  We're winning.  And for once, no one can take that away from us.  We're on top this year.  Deal with it.  Next year might be your team's turn.

Besides, ITS JUST A GAME.  Isn't the Super Bowl more about the commercials anyway? ;)

Now, who doesn't love a good photo montage of how much FUN it is to be a Seahawks fan?!?!?!

We may have lost that game, but we're still happy!

That one time I was there.

Not to toot my own horn, but HONK HONK.

Isn't my dad hilarious?

Isn't my mom the cutest?

Hottie Hubs and "the finger"

Things I'm Diggin

I've beein into a few things lately, and I'd like to share.  Maybe I can get some recommendations/ideas for when I'm not diggin anything in the near future, aka, nothing is on TV and I need something to watch NOW.

TV/Movies

1. The Following.  Super awesome show on Fox.  On Hulu Plus if you need to catch up.

2. Catfish.  Amazing show. On MTV, so that makes me feel 19. Season 1 just got over, but its also on Hulu Plus if you are needing a marathon fix.  My sister thought Nev was hot until she noticed his uncontrollable chest hair.

3. Survivor.  I missed last week ( the one where Brandon dumped his team's rice.....ooooh I'd be sooo pissed), but last night's was a good one, minus missing who got voted off (I found out it was Mr.Single-Dreadlock Beard.)

4. Documentaries. About anything.  This week, we watched Just for Kicks, one about the culture and fashion of the sneaker. And although it wasn't the best documentary I've ever seen, it was good enough to watch in its entirety.

Books

I'm usually too ADD to read a book.  Mostly because I have crocheting projects that I need to complete or I have a new People magazine that needs my immediate attention.  But I have a Kindle Fire that I love and I have been known to be wide awake at 3am, and reading puts me right to sleep.  Well, that is until this book.  I actually went to bed early and woke up early to read this and if I would wake up at 3am, instead of trying to get right back to sleep, I'd grab my Kindle from under my pillows and continue with this cray cray mystery novel about a man and his missing wife.  Of course the first person they turn to is the spouse.....

Girly Stuff

1. Discontinued Sensaria Mango lotion. My Aunt Lucy bought me some a few years ago, and I became obsessed.  So much, that she went around asking for everyone's extras because she knew the company was no longer.
2. Hottie Hubs' deodorant.  Speed stick, fresh scent.  Isn't strictly man smelling, and it works really well.  (I can't find mine, and after I smelled his, I quit looking, then I found mine and still use his)

3. Naked juice.  The cases were on sale at Costco last week, so I bought 2.  I have one every morning, and since I'm allergic to most fruit ( well, the thin-skinned ones that grow on trees), I can get the vitamins from those by drinking these!

4. My Dot Dash sunglasses. I scratched the first pair so much I could no longer see, so I went online and bought myself the exact same pair, and this time around, am keeping them scratch free!

Food

My Bountiful Basket. Oh, sweet sweet basket. How you have enriched my meals this last week and a half.  Here's what was inside. Oh, and I got the Thai add on, which was basically more green stuff.

1. Radishes
2. Mangoes
3. Lemons
4. Bananas
5. Lettuce
6. Asparagus
7. Celery
8. Garlic cloves
9. Bok Choy
10. Green Peppers
11. Strawberries

Thai Basket:
12. Napa Cabbage
13. Carrots
14. Mushrooms
15. A Coconut
16. Red Onion
17. Ginger
18. Dried chili peppers (i think)
19. Limes
20. Cilantro
21. Basil
22. Bamboo Shoot
23. Green Onions

WTH did two people do with all this food?  Well, some of it is still in my fridge and might not get eaten, but I really did try to use all the food, and was pretty successful.  This is prob the last time I get an add on, because it was basically like buying 2 baskets.  I still haven't figured out what to do with the bamboo shoot other than pretend its a dog whip. But since I don't whip my dog, it hasn't even gotten that use out of it.

I made two new recipes that I had never made before in my life, and like a good chef, didn't even taste them while they cooked.  I literally took my first bite after I dished up.  But both were amazing.

One was Braised Radishes, from this recipe.
The other, was a Ginger Garlic Bok Choy recipe that I can no longer find to link.

I've gotten in the habit of reading comments under every online article I read, mostly because they are hilarious and funnier than the article (especially on Tosh.O's blog. the comments are legen-waitforit-dary.  So, when I was looking at both recipes, I read the comments.  I find that people will try recipes and if something isn't quite right, they'll comment on how THEY made it, but changed things up a bit.  I pretty much followed commenter #2's advice and cooked them the way she did, and they were amazing.  Didn't even taste like radishes, which was the whole point I'm guessing.

REMIXED

Last night the HH and I were having a discussion about life and he said something to the effect of, "everyone's different".  Which sparked his brain to this video.  Its amazing.  I've already watched it 4 times, and probably will watch it 40 more times before I memorize it and sing along and possibly make my own remix.  Well, on second thought, I'll leave that to the experts, and in this case, the experts are PBS.  They've just created this series of remixes that will make you laugh, cry, smile, and feel completely warm inside.   I suggest you start with this one.

And then watch this one.

And then watch this one.

Am I right, or am I right?

You're welcome.

Two Beiber Brushes and a NKOTB pillowcase

Am I the only one who received 2 Justin Beiber singing toothbrushes for my (30th) birthday?

Pretty sure I was. Lucky for Rodney me they were different, which means different colors and 4 different two-minute songs. Lucky for Rodney me I haven't used them yet because I'm still using the one my dentist gave me.

I'm also pretty sure I'm the only one (if not, please fess up) with the rest of this list.

-Driven off with the drive thru banking cylinder.
-Uses the windshield wiper fluid level as a gauge for changing the oil (not the best idea, I realize this)
-Gets called Brooke or Blair or Blaze or Blaine once a day (possibly more)
-Calls leggings "leggins"
-Carries the family dog around like the family toddler
-Sleeps on a NKOTB pillowcase (well sometimes Hottie Hubs does, so I guess I'm not the only one)
-Knows the Royal Ranger code and was never a Royal Ranger
-Has an arsenal of over 100 beanies/beardies/fingerless gloves
-Could eat an entire smorgasbord of breakfast items the millisecond my eyes open each morning. (except biscuits and gravy as explained in next bullet)
-HATES gravy. Especially country gravy.  Chunky, peppery, sausage-y substance??? NAST-TAY.
-Watches "Hey Dude" on my lunch breaks. C'mon little doggie
-Falls up the stairs wearing a Snuggie (however I'm sure I'm not the only one)
-Uses the Snuggie sleeve as an eye mask at night.
-Dropped a cell phone in a port-o-potty hole
-Used a rest stop bathroom barefoot. Oh wait. That wasn't me. That was Britney Spears.
-Impulse purchased a Spongebob Squarepants Sno-Cone Maker.
-Still own Moon Shoes. As seen in the super awesome picture from this post.
-Believes in a right-handed world conspiracy.
-Thought the Knitting Factory was just as the title says.  And I did remember thinking it was weird but cool that G Love and Special Sauce was playing there. But we went, and it was amazing. Minus all the knitters I thought would be there sitting on couches enjoying the show. Boy did I look strange crocheting in the mosh pit.
-Stretched my earholes to now regret that decision. <insert my mother's voice saying "I told you so"> They grew back, well for the most part. The left one is still a little big, but nothing the elderly women can't compete with after decades of wearing heavy dangly earrings.

Going back to the NKOTB fetish I still got goin on....I recently ran into a long sleeve NKOTB shirt at Forever 31 21 and it got me goin on my childhood love.  So I bought some plastic NKOTB earrings off of ebay and have added a NKOTB pandora station to my mix.  So funny how I remember the words to all of the songs, not just the famous ones.

"Listen up everybody if you wanna take a chance, Just get on the floor and do the new kids dance!"

Roku, my new bff

TV has always been a bestestest friend of mine. A friend that occupies your time so much that even when they say the same thing over and over (re-runs) you still listen intently. When I was young, I can remember having a schedule during summer breaks that ran from 9am-5pm. A TV schedule that is. It went a little something like this:

(it takes a lot to admit to this much television viewing....baby steps)

9am: Live with Regis and Kathie Lee
10am: Price is Right
11:05: Batman (the old old version) "POW"
11:35: Batman (the old old version)
12:00pm: All My Children (hey it was my parents lunch break, and they hadn't missed an episode EVER)
1:05pm: Brady Bunch (TBS always had strange start times!!)
1:35pm: Brady Bunch
2:05pm: Saved by the Bell
2:35pm: Saved by the Bell
3:05pm: Family Matters
3:35pm: Family Matters
4-5 I can't really remember. Probably whatever was on after Family Matters. Anyone???
I heart Zack Morris

I was in love with Saved by the Bell and Brady Bunch.  I watched everyday because I KNEW there had to be an episode I hadn't seen. I may have blog mentioned this before, but remember the one SBTB episode with the lizard? Yeah, I actually saw that for the first time not that long ago.....proving my point.

So when we had to cancel our cable because we were getting ripped off by DirecTV, it was a sad day. Although the hubs and I had watched every History/VH1/MTV/Discovery reality show episode three times over, we still liked having the DVR and all those channels at our beck and call.

Its been over a year since we've had cable and we're still alive! For awhile, we didn't have anything. Then I noticed bunny ears at a friends house, and she was getting all the main channels for FREE.  Wait, I thought those channels were going away, and we were being forced to buy that "box"????? Not in this small years-behind-technology town!  So we have the bunny ears. Downside? It seems all 4 channels sing a different static song so we were constantly having to get off the couch to adjust the antenna. How 1960 of us.

Then I was at another friends house, and she was surfing these channels on a screen I had never seen before. It wasn't DirecTV, it wasn't Dish, it wasn't basic cable, it was like this little tiny box that harbored thousands of movies and TV shows waiting to be watched. I immediately felt my inner TV junkie coming out as I asked her a million questions about it.  Its name is Roku. And I love Roku. A lot.

It hooks up to the TV with those red/white/yellow cords, and just plugs into an outlet. Thats it. Well, you have to have wireless internet of course.  Its not that magic. And you pay for it 1 time, no monthly charges. On it are channels: Pandora, Hulu Plus, Netflix, Crackle, Amazon Prime, plus more.  We already had an account with Amazon Prime (bc I have a Kindle Fire) and Crackle is free (TVs and movies).  We decided to get into the monthly charge of 7.99 for Hulu Plus and cancel our Netflix, just because there's soooo much to watch on Hulu Plus that we didn't think we needed both.  Now that we've surfed hours and hours through Hulu Plus, we decided to switch back to Netflix for 7.99/month and temporarily cancel Hulu+. So, for 7.99/month, we have streaming movies and tv shows.  Sooo much cheaper than satellite, and better because all the shows are waiting for you as if they were on a DVR. Plus no commercials.  I repeat. No commercials.

If you are interested, click on the link I attached above.  You'll get $5 off, and possibly free shipping. Totally worth it.  We've saved over $1000 in the last year by not having satellite/cable TV.
